In April 2026, Design Hopes attended Procurement4Health (P4H) Scotland, Scotland’s leading healthcare procurement event, held at Murrayfield, Edinburgh and officially supported by NHS Scotland.

The event connects NHS buyers and suppliers from across the healthcare procurement community, with this year’s programme built around the theme “Delivering the Future” and featuring two tracks: Innovation & AI in Healthcare, and Sustainability in Healthcare.

There were over 700 attendees, and Adele Piper and Siobhan Thomson from Design Hopes attended to ensure the project was represented across both strands, reflecting our dual focus on innovative design and environmental sustainability.

The event surfaced two clear circular economy priorities flagged by NHS Scotland’s Climate Change and Circular Economy team: Walking Aid Circularity and Reusable Textiles, both of which relate to areas of current Design HOPES research, and we look forward to continuing conversations on these areas of focus with our NHS Scotland colleagues.

A presentation from a Fujifilm radiography researcher also demonstrated the impact of redesigning healthcare pathways. Their mobile diagnostic service enables specialist teams to respond to selected 999 calls and carry out scans in patients’ homes for suspected fractures, avoiding unnecessary ambulance journeys and A&E visits. With nine out of ten service users not requiring hospital admission, the project provides an encouraging example of how design-led innovation can improve patient care while reducing pressure on NHS services, with clear relevance to the ambitions our Flow project.
