Supporting a green and just transition for NHS Scotland

Clamping Down on Single Use Products

Typically, in NHS Scotland hospitals, fluids are administered intravenously to patients with a plastic single-use IV set. This project, informed by personal experiences of receiving numerous IV sets a day, aims to develop a reusable IV roller clamp that can be attached to and removed from existing IV sets.

About the Project

By introducing the reusable roller clamps to wards, the existing plastic single-use roller clamps can be removed from the IV sets, reducing plastic production and waste. Although a small change, this project could act as a precedent for a review of many other single-use products across NHS Scotland.
