Rosie Bristow

PhD student, Heriot-Watt University

Rosie Bristow is a PhD student in textiles and engineering at Heriot-watt university. She is researching and making open-source flax processing and spinning machines, with a goal to re-localise natural fibre textile production to the UK. She is the co-founder of Fantasy Fibre Mill, which was the 2023 winner of Converge create change challenge. She is also a part time flax farmer and accordionist.

Design HOPES is a collaborative design-led research initiative, comprising five Scottish Universities (University of Strathclyde, University of Dundee, Heriot Watt University, Abertay University, and the University of Edinburgh), NHS Scotland, the third sector, and design organisations.

This project is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) as part of the Future Observatory GTE Hub Programme at the Design Museum.
