Supporting a green and just transition for NHS Scotland

The Helping Hand

This project presents The Helping Hand, a sustainable redesign of the NHS ventilator arm aimed at enhancing functionality and reducing medical plastic waste.

About the Project

Everyday, thousands of NHS Scotland nurses and doctors struggle with issues caused by the ventilator arm due to its poorly designed functionality. By redesigning the mechanisms and the process in which they are made, we have designed a new arm that can be recycled maximising current levels of plastic waste from products in daily use across NHS Scotland. The Helping Hand resolves issues of the current arm to make it more efficient and useful for nurses and doctors, but also in a way that reuses waste materials from hospitals and that isn’t a throw away after one break.
